Quick Reference: The Shoulder

Quick Reference: The Shoulder

Finally after months of doing who knows what I have finished the shoulder quick reference sheet. I tried to incorporate all the important things of the shoulder joint.

I highlighted the ligaments, muscles that cross the shoulder joint with their corresponding innervations and actions, a few nifty illustrations and on the backside some of the more popular special tests.

As always if you find any mistakes or something blatantly wrong let me know and I’ll fix it ASAP.

Ortho quick reference guides [UPDATED]

Ortho quick reference guides [UPDATED]

I had always wanted quick reference sheets without having to pay for them. I am a broke student after all! Well after two years of hoping and crossing my fingers no luck, so I decided to take matters into my own hands.

I tried to make them as full of important, pertinent information as possible. I trimmed out all of the fluff and stuck with the main points consisting of: muscles that cross the joint along with their corresponding insertion, action, and innervation; normal ROM values; important ligaments; open/closed pack positions; special tests; etc etc

UPDATE: I realize there are only 3 guides currently. I am still working on the shoulder, wrist, and elbow. If you have any comments or I got something wrong, let me know here.

UPDATE #2: The shoulder and elbow are now finished and ready to be downloaded. See below!

UPDATE #3: The shoulder is NOT finished! I will finish it soon,  promise!

UPDATE #4: The shoulder is IS finished! Yay!!!

Lab Values and Vital Signs

Lab Values and Vital Signs

We recently had a quiz and said quiz contained a bunch of questions on lab values we had learned a looooooong time ago. Well needless to say, the majority of my class, myself included, had no idea what the correct answers were. So the next day, I held my squirt gun full of water to Jenny’s head and made her find all the values and type them up.

Thanks to Jenny and her hard work and my incredible skills of intimidation we present you with a pretty nice looking quick reference sheet for your printing pleasure.

Hot vs Cold

Hot vs Cold

I have been sifting through my old school stuff as I get closer to graduating I keep finding little goodies I had made to help me study. The little gem I am presenting today is a quick reference sheet front and back going over heat and cryotherapy (cold).

It covers the different types of heat and cryo, their biophysical effects, neurological reactions, each’s indications, contraindications, and precautions.

A quick little example for what I have under heat:

Transfer of Heat – Different types

  • Conduction: Kinetic motion of atoms of one object passes heat on to another object when they contact each other
    • Hot pack – water temp 77° C
    • Paraffin – 52-53° C
  • Convection: Movement of a liquid or gas transfers heat from one place to another
    • Circulating blood
    • Fluidotherapy – 41-52° C **can be used with open wound**
  • Radiation: conversion of heat to electromagnetic radiation
    • Ultraviolet
    • Infrared lamp
    • Microwave
  • Conversion: Conversion of a non-thermal form of energy into heat
    • Ultrasound
    • Shortwave diathermy
  • Evaporation: Conversion of liquid to a gas/vapor
    • Sweating
    • Vapocollant spray

Enjoy and as always feel free to contact us here if you have a correction or just want to share something with us!
