The other night I received an email from Penny Thomas, the person running howtobecomeaphysicaltherapist.org saying we have been included in their latest blog post “20 Stunning Physical Therapy Infographics.” Pretty cool stuff if you ask me!
Now that I have endless amounts of free time I checked out Penny’s site and it seems to be coming along nicely. On the main page is a directory of sorts with the most helpful links (in my opinion) being found on the left hand side. If you find yourself with some extra time I think you should paruse on over to howtobecomeaphysicaltherapist.org.
Ok enough of the blabber, below is the link to the 40 youtube videos. This comes from a post I found on Penny’s blog. Enjoy!

I have another solid find while on my last clinical. A whole bunch of handouts to give out as patient education. Exciting stuff I know! Most of the forms can be found on handcare.org. It is a pretty comprehensive site and I am sure most OT’s know all about this site, but for the PT’s and PTA’s out there this might be something new. Granted when you think about the hand most people will automatically think oh that’s an OT thing, but there are hand therapists out there that are PT’s so you never know!
There are around 40 different handouts and they are all written so a lay person can understand exactly whats going on and it even has pictures, so enjoy!

You heard me, are you nice to yourself? This question encompasses the major idea behind a new field of psychology called self-compassion.Basically, we tend to treat others better than we treat ourselves. Recent research has urged that self abasement produces personal feelings of neglect and loneliness which can lead to depression, overeating, suicidal thoughts and even change our brain chemistry.
Feelings often drive us to new highs or new lows in our life but can these feelings be produced by an altered sense of self worth. Can a poor self esteem and in turn self abasement lead to changes that can alter our life. Read the full story

I am sure that everyone of us has heard of working our core. The question is why are core exercises so important? Are the guys in the gym with rippling six packs an example what we mean by core stability?
Surprisingly, most of Americans (including the ones with ripped abs) are at risk of low back injuries in the future. These core muscles include small intricate connections of muscle within the spine along with the larger strap like muscles that surround the spine and anterior portion of the abdomen. Dr. Steven Farmer lectures on the joys of autonomic pharmacology. If you are anything like me when you see the word pharmacology you get the chills, so the idea of watching an hour long video over said topic isn’t exactly my idea of a fun night. BUT I sucked it up and watched most of this video and I can safely say, 1. I did survive & 2. it was a great general overview.
If you are currently in pharm or feel like you need a refresher give this video a look.

A recent article by Chris Hayhurst in the February edition of PT in motion describes a growing gap between new graduates and employers. Employers are worried that although new graduates are some of the most highly trained and technologically advanced PT’s in recent years, they have a common problem which is adding up to an epidemic.
What these new graduates have in skill they lack in professionalism. Employers are hiring these new graduates and are getting good results except for a few key areas. Read the full story

I have been sitting here going through my review for the NPTE. I know that many of us would rather live in the world of muscle and bones, however without the neurological anatomy providing the hard wiring for all those muscle and bones we wouldn’t function at all.
This is why I have decided to include a little neurological anatomy review to refresh those of us who tend to dwell in the realm of Orthopedics.
I heard that groan !…. Trust me its not as bad as it sounds. Read the full story

Primal 3D your days are numbered!!! Allow me to present you with Google Body Browser. Think of this as Google Maps but for the body!
Let me first start off by saying this is currently in Google Labs and requires a web browser with WebGL support for your prying eyes to see (Chrome beta, Firefox 4.0b1).
Yes, I realize for most of the readers here this is a bit over your head to go install a beta version of a web browser, but soon all major web browsers will be able to view this. Look on the bright side the Body Browser is still relatively basic (if you consider a fully zoomable clickable 3D body basic).
My love of anything google is no secret, but that will never stop me from highlighting non-google stuff. So with that said, here are some others similar to the Body Browser:

As I complete another clinic rotation I had this flash drive fall into my lap with tons of rehab protocols of local doctors around the valley (phoenix, az). Now I know that each doctor has his or her own protocol they like to follow, but I feel like these are great resources to have nonetheless!
I have tried to organize them the best I can for now. So currently the protocols are grouped into joints, so that means if you are looking for an ACL re-constructive surgery rehab protocol you would look in the “knee” section or if you want a shoulder arthroplasty protocol you would look in the “shoulder” section.
None of these protocols are property of rehabstudents. These should be used as a learning tool or reference not as a replacement for a doctors own protocol.
Hope you guys find these useful!
