Why I love my Crock-Pot®

crockpot

How I love my crock pot! Oh let me count the ways… Ok, I won’t really count the ways but I will say that besides the remote control and being able to order pizza via the internet the crock pot is the greatest invention known to man!

Pretty bold statement some might say, but you tell me what other single piece of cookware can cook soup, chili, ribs, pulled pork/chicken/beef, and yogurt (Yes that’s right yogurt. Click here if you don’t believe me.) amongst many others?

Anything that has its own fan club has to be pretty amazing, I mean right? Right!

Alright, that’s enough of me blabbering on about how amazing it is and how much I love mine. Being a grad student living off loans for the past few years I have come to appreciate cooking and eating on the cheap. No fast food for this growing boy!

I think my favorite thing about it is the fact that is doesn’t matter what’s in your fridge you can still put it in the crock pot with a can of broth, add some seasonings to taste and usually it’s pretty tasty.

For those adventurous crockpotters looking to go outside the pot… (lame I know, still made me chuckle so it’s here to stay!) I have found these sites to be full of great recipes and ideas.

For those who care, my favorite recipe is a simple one

  • Whole boneless skinless chicken breasts (1 -2 pounds)
  • Stubbs bbq sauce (pour a third of the bottle onto the chicken)
  • Sliced onions
  • Hamburger/hotdog buns

Throw that all in the crockpot on low for about 6-8 hours or a full day of classes. By then the chicken should fall apart (which is the point).

Pull it out onto a cutting board and use two forks to shred the chicken, once it’s all shredded toss it back into the pot with the onions and juices.

Pour some more bbq sauce onto the freshly shredded chicken and mix it all around.

bon appetit
